Van de Ven makes ‘shock’ Timo Werner admission at Tottenham
Micky van de Ven has made a surprising admission about Timo Werner, who has underwhelmed during his time with Tottenham.
Werner has spent the last season and a half on loan with Tottenham from RB Leipzig. However, the German hasn’t lived up to expectations.
The forward hasn’t featured since February and will miss the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United on Wednesday (21 May) as he isn’t registered for the competition.
Now, van de Ven has made an admission about Werner, who is nearing the end of his loan spell at Spurs.

Van de Ven speaks on his relationship with Werner
Werner is set to leave Tottenham, with the Lilywhites not planning on signing the 29-year-old permanently.
However, it would be fair to assume that van de Ven wishes this wasn’t the case.
| 2024/25 | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes |
| Timo Werner | 27 | 1 | 3 | 946′ |
In an interview with GQ (19 May), van de Ven revealed that he often speaks with Werner, while the teammates also share a box at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – was left surprised by this revelation.
“Van de Ven spoke about his relationship with Werner recently,” Wenham said.
“He described the close relationship that the two share, which is probably the case, as the two can speak German together. However, I did find that interesting. That surprises me quite a lot.”

Tottenham should part ways with Werner
Despite the close relationships he has built at Spurs, Werner has made just 27 appearances in a season where Tottenham are set to play 60 matches.
Therefore, with the possibility of UEFA Champions League football next season, Tottenham need to think about who and what provides them the best chance of competing for all trophies.
Werner is not a key player, and it is understandable why Tottenham don’t plan to keep him around in North London, even though van de Ven might be sad to see his friend leave.
