Van de Ven hailed after ‘strange’ Tottenham admission

Micky van de Ven has become an important figure in the Tottenham dressing room.

The Dutchman joined Tottenham from Wolfsburg in 2023 and has since risen to prominence in North London.

But the fitness of the centre-back has been a huge issue. Van de Ven made just 13 appearances from a possible 38 for Spurs in the Premier League this season.

And now the 24-year-old has given supporters another thing to think about after his recent admission.

Van de Ven makes ‘strange’ Ange Postecoglou admission

Ange Postecoglou was dismissed by Tottenham in a decision that can only be described as harsh after winning the UEFA Europa League.

It seems that he was a beloved figure in the dressing room, with countless messages streaming in from Spurs players once the news surfaced.

And now van de Ven has become one of the latest players to voice his thoughts on the matter.

Speaking to Voetbalzone (11 June), the defender said: “I think many of the players got along with him well, and of course, he is the first coach who has brought success to Spurs in a long time.

“That also shows that he has a certain quality and a winning mentality, 100 per cent. From that, you would of course say that it is strange that he was fired.”

Van de Ven was not the only person to be left confused by the decision, and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is grateful that he commented.

“I also think sacking Postecoglou was a strange decision,” Wenham said.

“Sometimes people from the Netherlands are a bit blunter with some of the things that they say. However, sometimes it is best to be direct and to make those kinds of comments.

“Van de Ven made it abundantly clear that he thought this was a strange decision, and I’m glad he decided to make that comment.”

Van de Ven on Postecoglou’s departure

Postecoglou’s departure could have unintended consequences

You only need to take a look at the outpouring messages of support to know that Postecoglou was a beloved figure in the Spurs dressing room.

As a result, his departure could see several senior players follow him out the door.

Cristian Romero was thought to have been particularly close to Postecoglou, but has not yet commented on his departure. The defender has been linked with Atlético Madrid this summer, and his silence could hint that he intends to make the move.

Furthermore, Spurs skipper Son Heung-min was trusted by the Australian and remained a starter even though his performances were undeserving. Therefore, after winning a trophy after nearly a decade with Tottenham, it could be time for Son to leave Hotspur Way.

However, whatever the decision of these players may be, there is no doubt that Spurs will look almost unrecognisable next season.
