Tottenham Women: ‘Phenomenal’ FA Cup achievement can inspire ‘Next Generation’

John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose believes the semi-final of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup must be hosted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Robert Vilahamn recently guided Tottenham Women to their first-ever FA Cup semi-final after a penalty shootout victory against Manchester City Women following a 1-1 draw at Brisbane Road on Sunday (10 March).

As per the FA Website (12 March), Spurs have managed to avoid the two favourites and both of last season’s finalists, Chelsea Women and Manchester United Women, in the final four, and will instead host Leicester City Women on the weekend of 13 April.

After such a big achievement for the club, Wenham has shared what he feels should be done.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “It is a phenomenal achievement, and I am so pleased for Vilahamn and the players.

“This game must be put on at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and it is down to the club to promote it daily, encourage people to bring as many family members and friends as possible and give the women’s team the support they deserve.

“Tottenham Women have got to the semi-final of the FA Cup, this should be a marvellous occasion to attract the next generation of supporters.

“There’s no excuse for this not to be played at the stadium and hopefully there will be a full house for the women’s team because they deserve it.”

Robert Vilahamn and Tottenham Women will feel confident of reaching Wembley

Leicester City also made history of their own by beating Liverpool Women to reach their first-ever Women’s FA Cup semi-final, which means one of either Tottenham or Leicester will compete in this season’s final for the first time in their history.

Spurs are currently three points ahead of their FA Cup rivals in the Women’s Super League, and they will feel confident of claiming a historic victory in front of their supporters.

If the clash were to take place in front of a packed crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, this could make a huge difference to the outcome of the match, as was demonstrated when Spurs beat their North London rivals Arsenal Women for the first time ever earlier this season (16 December).

In other Tottenham news, Wenham was delighted with the reaction of Spurs’ staff after a “bizarre” incident in the 4-0 victory over Aston Villa.
