Tottenham will not take 100% of windfall after new reveal – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Tottenham...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Tottenham will want a proportion of the windfall generated from a new hotel on their stadium campus, with the opportunity for commercial deals growing.

Spurs confirmed that planning permission for a 180-room hotel had been received on 13 December, and insisted this is part of a working “masterplan” moving forward.

The finance expert did admit after looking at the proposals that is unlikely for Spurs to take all of the windfall, but a fair amount will end up at the club.

“On a negotiation basis, Spurs would obviously want a proportion of that at the very least,” he exclusively told Tottenham News.

“It does depend on how the apartments work if they’re permanent residents, the hotel, who owns that, you can look at Spurs in there and part of the bigger picture we’ve seen, it’s another example of a savvy piece of business linked to the longer-term plan for the stadium.

We’ve seen them generate good commercial deals through that stadium already, this is another example.

I think it’s unlikely the way it looks at the moment with the proposals that they will be able to take all of the windfall from it, but you would imagine they will take a fair proportion of it, and again, another way to diversify your income and generate additional money from your stadium when it’s not on operation on matchdays.

That is what a lot of clubs are looking at now, how do we diversify that income? What can we do with the stadium and surrounding assets we have when they’re not in use, and I think this is another good example of it.”
