Tottenham v Brentford injury news: Doctor issues Ben Davies update

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Tottenham Hotspur...

Tottenham defender Ben Davies has returned to full fitness after his hamstring injury quicker than first expected, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert believed that he would be back in the second week of February, but Ange Postecoglou’s recent update suggests that he could be in contention for the game against Brentford on 31 January.

He said on 25 January that the Wales defender had begun training with the group but was not included in the matchday squad against Manchester City on 26 January.

Discussing the state of play with Davies exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “This sounds like a grade 3 out of 4 level hamstring injury.

The best way to avoid setbacks is a methodical rehab plan and building up minutes gradually.

I’d initially anticipated his return in the second or so week of February but he has made a quicker return to fitness and should be in contention for the upcoming games.

The club will also be putting huge emphasis on ensuring that he does not suffer a setback as these hamstring injuries can be notorious.

Before his injury, the 30-year-old was utilised regularly by Postecoglou either at centre-back or at left-back.

This season, Davies has made 14 Premier League appearances and even scored a goal in the 4-2 defeat against Brighton on 28 December.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have been the go-to centre-back pairing in recent games with Destiny Udogie deployed at left-back so Davies may have to bid his time on the bench for Spurs.

In other Tottenham Hotspur news, a player is mooted to have suffered a setback in his rehabilitation and now may be out for longer than first expected.
