Tottenham urged to sign Lautaro Martínez after £60m+ Inter Milan transfer news
Daniel Levy could silence his critics by bringing Lautaro Martínez to Tottenham.
Spurs supporters took to the streets to protest against Levy and ENIC ahead of the 1-0 Premier League win over Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (16 February).
More protests could take place once again ahead of the Premier League clash with Manchester City in North London on Wednesday 26 February.
Plenty of the frustration among supporters stems from the club’s lack of ambition in the transfer market and the reduced amount of focus on football-related activities, with Levy seemingly more interested in turning the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium into a multi-purpose entertainment venue.
However, the Spurs chairman could prove some of his doubters wrong by signing a high-profile Inter Milan ace.
Tottenham urged to sign Lautaro Martínez
As reported by InterLive (14 February), Tottenham have identified Marcus Thuram as their top target to fill the void left behind by Harry Kane.
However, Inter Milan would demand at least £68.5million for the Frenchman. Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – would prefer to see Thuram’s teammate, Martínez, signed instead.
“Inter signed Thuram on a free,” Wenham said.
“Now they want to shift him for almost £70million just two years later, no chance. I don’t see why Tottenham, who missed the opportunity to sign him for free, would now pay that kind of money.
“Also, if you’re going to go and sign a player from Inter Milan, there are players who I’d much rather see signed, such as Martínez.”
Tottenham to sign Lautaro Martínez instead of Marcus Thuram?
With doubts over Richarlison’s long-term future at the club, it would make sense that Spurs are looking to sign a high-profile forward who can provide competition for Dominic Solanke.
However, £68.5m is a lot of money to spend on Thuram. Spurs already have Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich with an option to make that transfer permanent.

Therefore, depending on how the 19-year-old performs this season, Spurs could look to take up that option. However, if they don’t, signing Martínez instead certainly wouldn’t be the worst idea, especially if they could get him for less than Thuram.
