Tottenham urged to complete £35m move for Rennes gem Desire Doue on one condition

Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham to sign Rennes’ attacking midfielder, Desire Doue, this summer following a superb season in Ligue 1.

According to the Daily Mail [26 May], Spurs have been joined by Manchester United and Arsenal in a race for the 18-year-old this summer, with Rennes expected to demand £35million.

The midfielder, who is also capable of deputising on the left flank, has notched four goals and six assists in all competitions, causing many European clubs to take notice, Spurs being one of them.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “Players like that, when you’re competing with Arsenal and Manchester United, you know you’re looking at the right players. If you look at his appearances for his age, he’s got a decent amount of experience for such a young player.

“He’s a young, talented player, but when you’re paying £35million for someone of his age, he’s not necessarily going to come in and affect the first-team squad immediately. He’s definitely one for the future.

“It depends on the budget this summer, what’s at the manager’s disposal, and where the manager prioritises this summer. If he loses the majority of his players, would spending £35million help in the Premier League and the Europa League, or is that for something further down the line?

“Is money best spent elsewhere for the forthcoming seasons? But if the finances are there to do it, absolutely bring a player like that in.”

Tottenham could beat Manchester United and Arsenal to Desire Doue signing

Tottenham are set for a summer of change under Ange Postecoglou, with the Australian beginning to rebuild the club using his beliefs and philosophies.

The manager has real trust in the youngsters at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which could see Spurs invest in 18-year-old Doue this summer.

However, it looks to be a luxury signing that could be completed once all the important transfer business is taken care of ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou must ensure one “stunning” Under-21 ace doesn’t suffer after an announcement this week.
