Tottenham Under-18 Leo Black backed to become a ‘Top Level’ player after what he did this week

John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose has backed Leo Black to become a “top-level” player at Tottenham after the full-back made his debut for England’s Under-18s this week.

Black has been in superb form for Spurs’ Under-18s this season at Hotspur Way, penning his first professional deal in North London earlier this month.

That superb form saw him rewarded with his first England call-up, with the full-back scoring in a 2-1 win over the Netherlands’ Under-18s on Monday (25 March) to help the Young Lions lift the Under-18 Pinatar Super Cup.

After watching Black shine on the international stage, Wenham believes the youngster is destined for big things.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “It was Black’s first ever England call-up and he grabbed himself a goal, with his all-round play superb as well.

“That makes him pretty much a guarantee to be named in the next England squad, and I think he will really establish himself now and go on to become the starting right-back for Spurs’ Under-21s next season.

“He finds himself on a positive trajectory at the moment and I believe he has the quality to become a top-level inverted fullback.”

Ange Postecoglou and Leo Black could be the perfect fit at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Black has been performing well as an inverted right-back this season, similar to what Pedro Porro has been doing for the first team.

That makes him a really exciting option for Ange Postecoglou, who will be keen to keep a close eye on the 18-year-old.

The Australian is a fan of full-backs who can operate in midfield, and Black has certainly demonstrated he is capable of that this season.

If he continues on this path, it might not be long until he earns a first-team call-up in North London.
