Tottenham told to sign new central midfielder after Rashford development

Tottenham Hotspur must focus on making midfield signings and not players like Marcus Rashford, according to Ian Darke.

The TV commentator, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, has claimed Rashford would not get in Ange Postecoglou’s team; likewise Randal Kolo Muani, who was targeted by Spurs but left PSG for Juventus.

Darke expressed his desire for Daniel Levy to focus on investing in midfield improvements before the winter transfer deadline on 3 February.

“Players like the forwards they’ve been linked with aren’t what they need. I don’t get where the likes of Rashford and Kolo Muani would’ve got in the team anyway. They have players like Kulusevski, Son, Maddison and Solanke,” he said.

“I don’t think that’s where they need reinforcements. Central midfield is where I think they need to strengthen with another quality signing.

“Bergvall is coming through, but Bissouma has been hit-and-miss this season and they don’t have many options performing well.”

Tottenham struggling to compete with wages

Tottenham are shopping in high-end stores for player signings during the current window, but are falling short with what they are willing to spend on wages.

Spurs have been linked with all manner of players – particularly attackers – since the transfer window opened, having seen four straight league defeats plummet the side to 15th in the Premier League table.

So far, only Antonin Kinsky has arrived in N17 during the current window, and he is anticipated to become the backup goalkeeper upon the return of Guglielmo Vicario.
