Tottenham told to sign Liam Delap after £40m+ transfer news

Tottenham could be in the market for a new striker this summer with Liam Delap’s name emerging.

Dominic Solanke has spent the last several weeks on the sidelines nursing a knee injury.

When the 27-year-old is fit and available, he is Ange Postecoglou’s number one choice up front in North London. However, with Richarlison’s long-term Spurs future up in the air, a new backup striker might be needed this summer.

And based on Delap’s record in the Premier League this season, it is no surprise his name has been mentioned.

Tottenham keen on £40million Samu Omorodion

As reported by CaughtOffside (27 February), Tottenham are one of several top European clubs considering a move for Porto striker Samu Omorodion.

The 20-year-old is valued at around £41.2million [CaughtOffside]. However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – would prefer to see Postecoglou’s side sign Ipswich Town striker Delap.

“If you asked me which striker I’d like Tottenham to sign, it would be Delap,” Wenham said.

“I think he is more suited to what Tottenham want to do than Omorodion. He is proven in the Premier League already, and he is someone I would like the club to go after.

“He looks as though he could be a perfect fit and he is someone Spurs should be going after, especially if Ipswich Town are to get relegated from the Premier League.”

Tottenham should replace Richarlison with Delap

Richarlison has struggled since moving to Tottenham from Everton and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the North London club cut ties with the Brazilian.

Replacing him with the much younger Delap would be a brilliant bit of business. However, while luring the 22-year-old to Hotspur Way shouldn’t be too difficult if Ipswich are relegated, Delap would likely want first-team football.

With Solanke around, that could be difficult to guarantee. As a result, a deal might be difficult to agree.
