Tottenham told to sign Bournemouth star with ‘new ideas’ needed now
We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
Alan Hutton thinks Bournemouth defender Ilya Zabarnyi would be an excellent January signing for Tottenham amid links of a move in the next transfer window.
The Daily Mirror reported on 10 December that the 21-year-old is on a “five-man shortlist” as Spurs look to bulk up their centre-back options, with Benfica’s Morata and Atalanta man Giorgio Scalvini also of interest.
Former Tottenham full-back Hutton, now a prominent pundit, thinks Zabarnyi would add a freshness to a team that still bears scars from previously failed managerial regimes.

Speaking to Tottenham News Hutton said: “Yeah, I think he does (make sense as a player to sign).
“He’s obviously kind of learned how to play at Bournemouth, kind of come on and looking a decent player, decent age.
“I think there’s still a lot of Spurs players in the squad who have been through the tough years, with all those different managers, all that baggage.

“And I think at some point you need to kind of turn that around, fresh faces in the building, new ideas to move the club forward.
“So, overall I think that would be a good move.”
Zabarnyi only joined the Cherries last January in a reported £20million deal from Dynamo Kiev and has made 23 appearances in all competitions for the club.
