Tottenham to think twice on summer signing of Wolves ace Pedro Neto amid ‘huge issue’

Pedro Neto’s injury record is a “huge issue” and one that might make Tottenham think twice about a summer transfer, according to Alan Hutton.

The Wolves forward, 24, could reportedly miss the rest of the season with a hamstring issue having missed eight weeks earlier in the season with a similar issue (Shropshire Star, 17 March).

Spurs are reportedly in a battle including North London rivals Arsenal for Neto’s signature this summer, though Wolves are said to be looking for over £60million to sell the Portugal international (Evening Standard).

Former Spurs defender Hutton – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks the club might have to think twice about coughing up a big fee for a player who is struggling to stay fit.

“It’s an issue, I think if you’re going to be spending that sort of money these are the sort of things you take into consideration,” he said.

“How many games has he missed through injury? Does this happen regularly throughout the season? Because you’re laying down a lot of money.

I think he’s a fantastic footballer, he makes the squad definitely better, it’d be up to him to come in and push his way into being a regular starter because they’ve got a lot of options.

“But it definitely comes into it where you look at the injury record. I don’t know exactly what he has but if he’s going to still be having this problem moving into the new season then that’s a huge issue.”

Will Tottenham sign Pedro Neto?

If Tottenham can get over the line in their quest to return to Champions League football next season then Neto is absolutely the profile of player they should be looking to sign.

Not only would it boost the strength and depth of the squad but he would be a great addition to an already strong forward line at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham Manager Ange Postecoglou
Archie Gray could feature frequently under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham this season

Hutton is right insofar as the injury record will be a concern to Ange Postecoglou but that is the sort of thing he and the medical team will weigh up when pondering whether to make a bid.

The issue is that the speedy players often tend to pick up hamstring injuries but if they decide it’s a risk worth taking it would be an excellent signing.
