Tottenham to thank Timo Werner for his service and send him on his way amid transfer development
John Wenham believes Tottenham are “likely” to avoid making Timo Werner a permanent addition and instead use the money to sign Nico Williams.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes that Williams would be an “outstanding” addition to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
It comes after The Telegraph reported (9 April) that Tottenham are keeping an eye on the Athletic Bilbao forward, who could be available for £42.8million this summer due to a buyout clause in his contract.
Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels it is unlikely that both Werner and Williams are signed permanently.
“If Spurs were to spend the £42.8million on Williams, that wouldn’t be good for Werner’s future at Tottenham,” Wenham said.
“In that situation, the club are likely to thank Werner for the season, what he has done for the team and wish him well and use the money that would go toward him to sign Williams.
“Williams would be an outstanding signing and a real statement of intent.”
Nico Williams could be a big hit under Ange Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Williams has all of the qualities that Postecoglou looks for in one of his forward players.
He can play anywhere across the front line, he is quick and he also has an eye for goal.
At 21 years old, he is an investment for the future and someone that Spurs should be all over.

While Werner has been okay in spells, he is much older than Williams, and Tottenham would be better off putting the money that would be spent on the German toward a younger player with a higher ceiling.
