Tottenham ‘to sign Marc Guéhi ahead of Jarrad Branthwaite’ – Exclusive

Jarrad Branthwaite and Marc Guéhi have both been linked with moves to Tottenham.

Tottenham could be in the market for a new centre-back this summer as Cristian Romero continues to be linked with Atletico Madrid.

The Lilywhites had a deadline day bid rejected for Crystal Palace centre-back Guéhi during the winter transfer window, and have more recently been linked with a move for Everton’s Branthwaite.

However, this rumour has caused some confusion, with an expectation that Tottenham will sign Guéhi ahead of Branthwaite this summer.

Tottenham could spend big on Guéhi

Branthwaite has reportedly emerged as a top target for Tottenham.

According to Mail Sport (16 June), Thomas Frank’s side are weighing up an approach for the Everton star, and could formalise their interest as soon as this week.

Tottenham will need to act fast as four other Premier League sides, including Chelsea, are also considering a swoop for Branthwaite, who Everton are reluctant to sell.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that if Tottenham are going to spend big money on a centre-back this summer, it will be Guéhi.

“For me, this is a strange one,” Wenham said.

“Branthwaite is a left-footed, left-sided central defender, and we’ve got Micky van de Ven in that position already. Therefore, if we’re going to spend big money, I think we will sign Guéhi.

“It seems odd that Tottenham would invest heavily in a player who would be an understudy to van de Ven.

“We’re not Manchester City; we’re not going to spend big money on someone unless they’re going straight into the team. As a result, I don’t really believe those rumours.”

Tottenham should consider Guéhi an excellent alternative

Several of the Premier League’s biggest clubs have been linked with Branthwaite. Therefore, the 22-year-old’s situation is certainly one to watch this summer.

However, Spurs would be better off signing Guéhi, especially if Romero does leave, as the England international would slot in seamlessly alongside van de Ven.

As a result, any big-money offer from Tottenham for a new centre-back should be sent to Selhurst Park, rather than the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
