Tottenham to sign goalkeeper on loan in January despite Fabrizio Romano claim

Fabrizio Romano recently shared what he knew about Tottenham signing a goalkeeper in January.

Speaking on Men In Blazers (24 December), the transfer specialist said, “I was also asking my sources the same question because I had the same doubt, but I’m told that Postecoglou’s being honest.

“I think they will not sign a goalkeeper in the January transfer window. That’s what I’m told.”

Fraser Forster – who is expected to leave Spurs at the end of the season – has been deputising for Guglielmo Vicario between the sticks with the Italian currently sidelined with an ankle injury.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks the club would be leaving themselves short by relying entirely on Forster for the foreseeable future.

“I think Tottenham will sign a goalkeeper on loan in January,” Wenham said.

“We still don’t know when Vicario will return. If he isn’t back until February or March, that is a lot of the season gone already. Therefore, Spurs would be taking a risk if they didn’t bring in a goalkeeper and something was to happen to Forster.

“As a result, I think a keeper is likely to be brought in on a loan deal.”

Tottenham to sign goalkeeper on loan in January?

As reported by Alan Nixon via his Patreon on Sunday (29 December), Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson is an “option” for Tottenham.

Therefore, it seems as though the club are continuing to look at goalkeepers ahead of January. As a result, there is a good chance that Wenham might be right, which means Romano would be wrong.

Overall, it probably would make sense for Spurs to bring somebody in between the sticks, with Forster having made some high-profile errors since stepping in for Vicario.

Tottenham, Fraser Forster

However, whether Tottenham can get a deal over the line for a goalkeeper in January is a different story.
