Tottenham to sign brand-new defender as concerns raised – Exclusive
Tottenham will undoubtedly be in the market to reinforce their defence ahead of next season.
With Tottenham set to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season, it is evident that the Lilywhites need to make the most of the summer transfer window.
Several players have already been linked with a move to Tottenham in the coming weeks, while several others have also been mooted for an exit.
With that in mind, one priority has emerged in North London, with it looking likely that Spurs will look to address the concerns that surfaced in the previous campaign.

Champions League campaign will require sufficient squad depth
Tottenham’s 17th-placed finish in the Premier League comes down to several factors, the main being that their squad depth was non-existent.
As soon as it became clear the UEFA Europa League was the priority, Spurs had very little room to take the risk on regulars in the league, which ultimately led to their domestic failures.
Premier League | Injuries |
Brighton | 48 |
Tottenham | 41 |
Ipswich | 41 |
Added to that, with Cristian Romero edging closer to an exit, the need for defensive signings has become even more apparent, with Paul Robinson insisting that cover will be needed.
Speaking to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “They’ve been hit with a lot of injuries.
“Squad depth, the quality of squad depth. Yes, they’ve got a number of good players. However, have they got a number of good players that run deep into a squad or does the quality start waning the further down the squad you go?
“You need to get a squad that’s able to compete in the Champions League, not just to start in the 11. We know that Micky Van de Ven is susceptible to injury. Pedro Poro, Destiny Udogie, look how much football they missed this season.
“Even Guglielmo Vicario missed games. You’ve got to have two players in every position. There’s no out-and-out position that Spurs need, glaringly.
“However, I think in the full-back areas, they’re light. They’re going to need a squad that’s able to compete. I mean, they’ve competed obviously in the Europa League this year whilst having a Premier League campaign. However, there was no Premier League campaign in reality.”

Tottenham have no time to waste this summer
If Spurs are to compete in the Premier League and the Champions League next season, they need players capable of doing that.
In terms of the starting 11, they are sorted. However, as soon as injury concerns start to creep in, options are very limited. As a result, that needs to change in the coming months, with a huge summer ahead.
