Tottenham ‘to replicate Archie Gray success’ with Sunderland signing – Exclusive
Archie Gray has been the shining light in an otherwise dull season for Tottenham, and Spurs may be looking to shop in the Championship again this summer.
Domestically, Tottenham have endured a nightmare of a season, though they do remain in with a chance of winning a trophy via the Europa League.
However, a failure to do that would not only likely see Ange Postecoglou sacked, but would also confirm that they would face a season without European football.
The reasons behind that failure largely come down to the lack of quality in the squad, though Gray has done his utmost to impact that, and has arguably been their best player throughout the campaign.
Having arrived as somewhat of an unknown after his breakthrough season at Leeds, Tottenham could follow a similar route this summer.

Sunderland star would suit Tottenham to the ground
Tottenham have a huge summer ahead, and transfer plans have already seemingly started amid links to Sunderland’s Chris Rigg, who Spurs were believed to have lodged a £37million offer for.
However, Paul Robinson, when speaking to Tottenham News, is unsure of the price rumoured for the 17-year-old, while expressing why it would be a good signing.
He said: “Not so sure on the amount, but he’s the type of player that Tottenham sign. You look at the history of the club, the recruitment style, and the recruitment strategy. Like Archie Gray this season from Leeds. And look at the impact that he’s had.
Sunderland | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Chris Rigg | 36 | 4 | 1 |
“I know he’s thrust into the first team in circumstances that were probably not suspected or that the manager predicted. He played a lot more football than he was expected to this year. But with Chris Rigg, he’s the type of player that Tottenham sign. Transfer fee, no idea, not so sure what Sunderland would take.
“Sunderland may be a Premier League team next season. And then it’s a completely different conversation. But even if they do go up, he’s the type of player that Tottenham do sign.“

Rigg signing may not be priority at Tottenham
If Tottenham were to sign Rigg, it would be an excellent addition to the number of promising youth players they already have in North London.
However, Spurs have massively underperformed this season, and there is a fair case to make that a 17-year-old wouldn’t be able to influence that immediately, and for such a high price tag, Tottenham may find better use of the finance.
Recruitment will be key for Tottenham this summer if they are to avoid a repeat of the current campaign.
