Tottenham to replace Bryan Gil with Rayan Cherki as Eden Hazard comparison emerges

Bryan King believes Tottenham could look to replace Bryan Gil with Rayan Cherki.

The ex-Spurs scout claims the Lyon forward would be an “ideal replacement” for Gil, who has been linked with a move away from North London.

It comes after a report in HITC (22 May) revealed that Spurs are one of several clubs interested in Cherki.

Ligue 1 expert Jonathan Johnson previously likened the France Under-23 international to ex-Chelsea star Eden Hazard (via CaughtOffside, 20 July 2023).

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the 20-year-old could be a useful addition to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

He sounds as though he would be an ideal replacement for Gil,” King said.

“More of a squad player than someone who is going to win you the Premier League.

“If Gil or Giovani Lo Celso are to leave, then Tottenham need to be looking at replacements of a similar or higher level.

“Cherki is playing for a decent club. Players are going to be leaving so replacements need to be lined up.”

Rayan Cherki would raise the level of Ange Postecoglou’s squad at Tottenham

Cherki is still young, but he has had an impressive season in Ligue 1 with one of France’s top teams.

Meanwhile, Gil has failed to make any sort of meaningful impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

If a player like Cherki was to be signed, it would certainly improve the overall level of Spurs’ squad ahead of their return to European football next year.
