Tottenham ‘to release at least six players’ in mass clearout – Exclusive

Tottenham are expected to release at least six players at the end of the season, and could even let as many as nine leave in a mass clearout.

Ange Postecoglou still has a chance to cement himself in the Spurs history books by winning the UEFA Europa League, with the Lilywhites set to host Bodø/Glimt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (1 May) in the first leg of the two clubs’ semi-final showdown.

However, the 59-year-old has also overseen one of the worst Premier League seasons in Spurs’ history, with the North London club currently sitting 16th after losing 19 of the 34 games they’ve played so far.

As a result, even if Postecoglou does guide Tottenham to European glory, Daniel Levy is expected to sack the Australian. However, it seems as though a host of players could also be headed for the Tottenham exit door.

Tottenham ‘to release as many as nine Under-21 players’

As well as the first team, the Tottenham Under-21s also struggled this season.

After finishing top of the Premier League 2 and winning the play-off phase of the competition in the 2023/24 season, Wayne Burnett’s side declined dramatically this year, finishing 22nd.

Spurs’ Under-21s had a Premier League 2 campaign to forget

Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – anticipates a host of Under-21 stars to be released by Spurs at the end of the season.

“Tottenham will want to put a lid on this Premier League 2 campaign,” Wenham said.

“I think over the coming weeks some friendlies will be played, and I think many of the players who will be leaving Spurs will be out on trial at other clubs ahead of their releases from Tottenham on 30 June.

“I think at least half a dozen players will be released, maybe as many as nine. There is going to be a big turnaround this summer.”

Tottenham Under-21s must improve

Spurs have had a lot of success with young players this season, such as Mikey Moore and Luca Williams-Barnett.

However, at Under-21 level, there was little to shout about, and very few players who suggested they were ready to step up to the first team anytime soon.

As a result, Burnett needs to focus on making some improvements next season.
