Tottenham ‘to receive generous fee for Ben Davies’ amid latest transfer news

Ben Davies’ near-11-year stay with Tottenham could come to an end this summer.

Davies was Mauricio Pochettino’s first signing, and is currently Spurs’ longest-serving player.

Tottenham recently extended Davies’ contract until 2026. However, this has not guaranteed that the Welshman will remain in North London beyond the summer.

Wrexham are expected to pay a ‘generous’ transfer fee for Davies

Davies has gradually fallen down the pecking order in recent years at Tottenham.

The defender became a UEFA Europa League winner under Ange Postecoglou but only made 28 appearances across all competitions this season.

Therefore, the 32-year-old has been linked with a Tottenham exit, and as reported by the Daily Mail (8 June), remains a target for Wrexham despite his contract being extended.

Wrexham continue their historic march after their promotion to the Championship saw the Red Dragons become the first team in the history of England’s top five divisions to obtain three successive promotions.

Tottenham were likely aware of Wrexham’s interest before extending Davies’ contract, and the success of the Championship team could convince him to sign for them this summer.

And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the Lilywhites have done well to take control of the situation.

“I don’t think this changes Davies’ situation too much,” Wenham said.

“It makes sense to extend his contract rather than let him leave Tottenham on a free transfer. Thomas Frank will take a look in pre-season and decide.

“Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte both decided to keep Davies around. However, if Frank decides that he doesn’t want to keep Davies, due to the amount of interest, there will be a club that pays a generous fee. Therefore, I think this contract extension just gives Tottenham some control.”

Davies would make a good rotational option

It would not be the end of the world if Tottenham do not recoup a decent fee for Davies this summer.

Indeed, the Lilywhites will compete in all competitions next season, including the UEFA Champions League. As such, they will need ample squad depth to remain consistent both domestically and in Europe.

Davies has proven that he is still a reliable option at the back and could become an important rotational player next season.
