Tottenham ‘to promote outstanding teenager’ after new contract announcement

Tottenham relied heavily on their teenage talents during the final stretch of the season.

Ange Postecoglou faced a difficult second season in North London as the Australian was forced to contend with a host of injuries to first-team players.

As a result, with his back against the wall, entrusting Lucas Bergvall, Mikey Moore, and Archie Gray became the best decision the 59-year-old could have made.

Now, one talented teenager is set to profit from this new culture at Spurs, which sees the Lilywhites position their youth at the forefront of their thinking.

Tynan Thompson signs his first professional contract at Tottenham

Luca Williams-Barnett made headlines as the top performer for Spurs’ Under-18s this season. However, Tynan Thompson also caught the eye of Spurs bosses.

Tottenham announced last month (30 May) that Thompson has signed his first professional contract with the North London club.

Lilywhite Rose also took to X (30 May) to congratulate Thompson, describing him as a “top prospect”.

The forward plays like he should be training with the first team. He operates at a blistering pace, controlling the ball at high speeds and running circles around opposition defences.

As a result, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Thompson will play regularly for the Under-21s next season.

“Thompson is outstanding, he is a very good player,” Wenham said.

“He’s unlucky because he’s in the same team as Williams-Barnett. Therefore, sometimes the limelight gets taken away from him.

“However, Thompson is a solid eight or nine out of 10 every time he plays. Every single time I watch him, he dominates the left wing. He is pacey, powerful, tricky and can score goals. He’ll be stepping up quite regularly for the Under-21s next season.

“That way, he can look to impress scouts ahead of a loan move the following year.”

Tottenham should give Thompson some first-team minutes

It was already suggested that Postecoglou could have called Thomspon up to the first team after the international break in March.

However, this did not happen, and Spurs continued their descent to 17th in the Premier League without testing the youngster.

Now that Postecoglou has been sacked by Tottenham, new Head Coach Thomas Frank could benefit from entrusting Thompson.

Son Heung-min has struggled to exert himself on the pitch these past few seasons, and the left wing is crying out for some fresh blood.

Thompson could be the spark needed to feed some life back into that left-hand side if given the chance.
