Tottenham ‘to make Ivan Toney transfer approach’ after major Frank development
Tottenham are in the market for a goal scorer as they look to rebuild under Thomas Frank.
Spurs’ strikers flattered to deceive this season as the Lilywhites finished 17th in the Premier League.
Dominic Solanke only managed nine league goals in a difficult first season in North London, with only Brennan Johnson hitting double figures.
Meanwhile, Richarlison is expected to leave Spurs after suffering a torrid time with injuries, which could see a spot open up for Ivan Toney to join the Lilywhites following a major development regarding Frank.

Frank agrees to join Tottenham
Tottenham have been deliberating over several candidates to replace the outgoing Ange Postecoglou, culminating in a chaotic start to the summer.
However, as reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (10 June), it looks as though a decision has finally been reached, with Frank having struck an agreement with Tottenham.
The Dane had emerged as the favourite in the last few days, though there was a question of whether Daniel Levy would be willing to pay Brentford £10million for his release.
The chairman has now agreed to the West London club’s demands and is working on finalising the deal ahead of Frank’s official announcement.
It has already been reported that a couple of Brentford players might follow Frank to North London, and ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the 51-year-old could also approach former Bees striker Toney.
“Bryan Mbeumo’s decision will be based on the money on offer,” King said.
“He hasn’t signed any agreement with Manchester United yet. If he goes to Tottenham, he won’t have to move very far. Plus, he knows Frank, who is the manager who has given him a chance.
“However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tottenham move for Toney with Frank coming in. Obviously, the stumbling block will be the money, but apart from the money, it is hardly a high-quality league.
“He’s been included in the England squad, but playing in Saudi Arabia isn’t going to help his position with England with the World Cup coming up. Tottenham should have signed Toney last summer.”
Toney at odds with Spurs’ recruitment strategy
Tottenham’s approach to transfers in recent seasons has been to target talented young players whom they can nurture at the club.
Even the more senior players that have been brought in, namely Solanke and James Maddison, were 26 years old at the time of their arrival, still giving them a couple of years to reach their prime.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes Played |
Saudi Pro League | 30 | 24 | 4 | 2,534′ |
AFC Champions League | 13 | 6 | 2 | 992′ |
King’s Cup | 1 | 1 | – | 90′ |
While Toney has impressed during his time at Al-Ahli, at 29, the striker would be the oldest outfield player Spurs have signed since Ivan Perisic in 2022.
Signing the England forward could prove that the Lilywhites might be veering away from their recent recruitment strategy in favour of signing more established players.
