Tottenham to bag ‘extra money’ from Harry Kane deal as fresh Bayern Munich details emerge from Germany

We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Alan Hutton isn’t shocked to see a rather peculiar development regarding the deal that took Harry Kane from Tottenham to Bayern Munich in the summer.

Kane, 30, left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to join Bayern Munich for around £95million (€100m) in August and has since lit up German football with 21 goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.

German newspaper Abend Zeitung reported on Monday (20 November) that in order to keep that deal from going over €100million, Bayern inserted an agreement that would see them play two friendlies against Tottenham with the Premier League club keeping all of the proceeds.

Abend Zeitung added that it’s unclear how and when the two “additional transfer games” will be played.

Bayern have reportedly made similar agreements in the past with RB Leipzig and Hutton has revealed that it happened on occasions during his playing career too when he played in matches similar to this.

“It’s not [a surprise] for me, to be honest,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

I’ve seen it a lot of times in previous clubs I’ve been where a player’s been sold to a club and the agreement is in pre-season, you go there and play against the team the player came from.

That way, they can make extra money out of the deal.

It’s not unusual, I’ve seen it a lot of times.

Financially, going to a pre-season game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it’s going to be absolutely packed. Everybody’s going to want to watch that so the traction is there.

For me, it’s a normal thing, to be honest.”

Bayern have brought in manager Julian Nagelsmann and players Dayot Upamecano, Marcel Sabitzer and Konrad Laimer in recent years from RB Leipzig.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs’ deal with an external London-based company could bring in millions for Daniel Levy.
