Tottenham to assess Destiny Udogie’s situation once season ends as huge injury update emerges

Destiny Udogie’s situation at Tottenham could be set to come under scrutiny again next summer after a huge injury update.

The Italian was briefly linked with a move away from the Premier League in the recent transfer window, as a surprise exit was seemingly on the cards at one stage.

Tottenham faced interest in Udogie from AC Milan, as the Italian giants tried to line up a move to take the defender back to his homeland ahead of this season.

Nothing materialised for the left-back on that occasion, but the issue could be set to resurface for Thomas Frank and Co. next summer.

Tottenham won’t sell Destiny Udogie in January

Djed Spence’s continued emergence at Tottenham has provided Frank with excellent flexibility with his full-back options this season.

The Dane has regularly rotated between Spence, Pedro Porro and Udogie in the two positions so far this term, knowing that all three are adaptable and top-level players.

The interest in Udogie from elsewhere appears to have died down in recent weeks, but given the quality that he provides, it would be no surprise to see it reignite in the future.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that the N17 outfit won’t want to sell him in January, but could reconsider at the end of the season.

“I’d certainly keep him (Udogie),” King said.

“Spurs have got an English international in (Djed) Spence, a Spanish international in (Pedro) Porro and an Italian one in Udogie, that’s not a bad selection at all for your full-backs.

“I would certainly keep those three options, and then have another look at it at the end of the season.

“I’ve always liked Udogie since he came in. He was certainly one of Spurs’ better signings recently, as was Porro.”

Destiny Udogie not fit to return vs Everton

Udogie was absent from the Tottenham squad for their defeat to Aston Villa last Sunday, and Frank has now provided a major update on his fitness ahead of this weekend’s clash with Everton.

The boss has revealed that the defender “is not on the grass yet” during his pre-match press conference on Friday, which indicates that he will not be ready to play any part at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Frank’s men have an awkward task on their hands away at a resurgent Everton side, and news of Udogie’s continued absence certainly doesn’t make their job any easier.
