Tottenham ‘to accept £50m for Son Heung-min’ as transfer exit news emerges

Son Heung-min’s decade-long stay with Tottenham could come to an end this summer.

Spurs’ captain has looked like a shadow of his former self this season and his poor form could cause Ange Postecoglou to be sacked.

However, despite the 32-year-old’s struggles, Tottenham recently exercised their option to extend Son’s contract by another year, although Dominic Solanke’s muted reaction suggested this wasn’t an overly popular decision.

The South Korean is now tied down in North London until the summer of 2026. However, this hasn’t prevented clubs from expressing an interest, with José Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe recently making a transfer enquiry [Sabah].

And it looks as though Tottenham could be open to a sale, despite the recent contract extension.

Tottenham ready to sell Son Heung-min?

As reported by GiveMeSport (10 February), Tottenham hope to launch a squad revamp in the upcoming transfer window, and Son is one of the players who could make way.

Therefore, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has speculated how much the North London club would want to sell the South Korean.

“Son will have a year left on his contract and he is in his early thirties,” King said.

“I think Tottenham would want a minimum of £50million to sell him. He brings plenty of value to the club off the pitch, think about how many people travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch him.

“I’m not sure exactly how many people come every week. However, there always seems to be plenty of people travelling in from South Korea to see Son play.”

Tottenham to accept £50million for Son Heung-min?

If Spurs were to be offered £50m for Son, the North London club would be foolish not to accept.

The forward appears to be on a steep decline, and unless he signs another contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs could lose him for free if they don’t sell him this summer.

Therefore, despite the emotional attachment a lot of fans most likely have to Son after his extended stay at Tottenham, it does feel as though now is the right time to cut ties.

And if interest from Saudi Arabia is to resurface, a £50m transfer fee might not be so far-fetched.
