Tottenham: Time is up for Bryan Gil at Spurs after January transfer ‘mistake’ development

John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose believes Tottenham must sell Bryan Gil this summer.

Spurs signed Gil from Sevilla in a player-plus-cash deal, paying the La Liga outfit £21.4million plus Erik Lamela (The Guardian, 26 July 2021).

It has been almost three years since the now-23-year-old arrived in North London, and he has yet to make a real impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Gil has twice been sent out on loan during his stay with Tottenham and has made just 42 appearances for the North London side, yet to find the back of the net while providing two assists in that time

He has hardly featured for Ange Postecolgou this season, and after he was linked with a move away in January, Wenham believes Gil’s time could be up this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “I think it is time for Gil to finally move on from Tottenham.

“He stayed around in January, but that appears to have been a mistake.

“It is likely he will see very little game time between now and the end of the season, with just 12 Premier League games left.

“I expect him to move on permanently in the summer.”

Will Bryan Gil leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer?

Sometimes things just don’t work out between a player and a club, and that appears to be the case for Gil and Tottenham.

It is hard to pinpoint what exactly has gone wrong for Gil in the Premier League, but it is clear that he just isn’t the right fit for English football or Postecoglou.

He is clearly a talented player, having played a part in Sevilla’s UEFA Europa League success while on loan with his former club during the 2022/23 season, although that talent hasn’t been apparent at Tottenham.

Tottenham
Bryan Gil has struggled to find his feet at Tottenham.

With the competition high for spaces out wide at Spurs, it appears that Gil might be the player to make way this summer.

In other Tottenham news, Wenham is a “fan” of one Spurs-linked player previously pictured in the club’s colours.
