Tottenham teenager ‘to receive plenty of game time’ after contract announcement

Tottenham are expected to take one young star to the next level after a recent contract announcement.

The Lilywhites entrusted their young talents with their season after several injuries to their main starters.

Spurs supporters watched in delight as Lucas Bergvall, Mikey Moore, and Archie Gray became important features during a UEFA Europa League-winning campaign.

And the culture of entrusting younger players is not expected to change next season after a new contract announcement.

Reiss Elliott-Parris signs a professional contract at Tottenham

The successful integration of Moore into the first team has paved the way for other academy starlets to climb the ranks.

Reiss Elliott-Parris started the season on the Under-18s bench as a substitute for Ellis Lehane. At the end of the season, the striker had not only earned more game time but also a professional contract at Spurs.

Agreeing on personal terms is a huge boost for the North London club in retaining their academy talents, rather than other clubs poaching them later down the line.

The 17-year-old has a bright future ahead of him, and, unsurprisingly, Tottenham were determined to retain him.

Elliott-Parris produced six goals and four assists from 26 appearances for the Under-18s this season, and has already made an appearance in the Premier League 2 for the Under-21s.

Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that Elliott-Parris has done enough to see his minutes increase next season.

“Elliott-Parris started the season as a substitute,” Wenham said.

“Lehane was the main striker for the Under-18s. However, he got his opportunity and showed something a bit different. Elliott-Parris has trickery and good footwork, whereas Lehane is a more traditional number nine.

“Elliott-Parris has a bit more variety to his game and can also play as a winger, so there will be lots of opportunities for him to get minutes next season.”

Tottenham should entrust their youngsters next season

It is difficult for a big club to put their trust behind their youngsters when they have everything to lose and all to gain.

But whether down to unfortunate circumstances or not, Tottenham found entrusting their youth to be a net positive.

Bergvall was a particular stand-out player this season. The teenage sensation completed a clean sweep of the club’s end-of-season awards, winning the Official Supporters’ Clubs (OSC) Player of the Season and both Player of the Season awards from One Hotspur Members and One Hotspur Juniors.

Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert and Gray also played an important part in Spurs’ UEFA Europa League win.

Therefore, even with a new manager appointment imminent, Tottenham should continue to invest in their young players next season.
