Tottenham should get Jota transfer done on 1 January in desperate new message – Expert

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes that Tottenham should be looking to get a deal done for Al-Ittihad star Jota on January 1 so he is available straight away next month.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for the ex-Celtic star ahead of the January transfer window opening in less than a month, with the forward having previously played under Ange Postecoglou during his time in Glasgow.

As previously reported by The Times (28 November), the north London outfit could look to reunite Postecoglou and Jota by bringing the 24-year-old in on loan.

Wenham suggested that this is certainly a move the club should be looking to make given the current state of play within the squad, with a move for a defender also desperately needed.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Jota was one of the star players for Celtic, he was one of the main men under Ange Postecoglou.

“They’ve worked together and been successful before so if Postecoglou feels like he could add something to our team then we should absolutely be looking to get him in.

“It will give us far more options in the wide areas which is a position we seem to be struggling with at the moment, especially with the likes of Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic both sidelined with long-term injuries.

“We should be looking to get a deal for Jota done on 1 January so that he’s available and ready to start playing straight away, and then we can move onto central defence which is another area we so desperately need to add cover for.

“Hopefully the opportunity to work with Postecoglou again and the opportunity to live in London will be enough to sway him to decide on Tottenham. It would certainly be a sensible signing”
