Tottenham set for ‘huge’ multi-million outlay after official announcement on Tuesday
John Wenham doesn’t understand the decision to bring Timo Werner back to Tottenham.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims the German is not worth the money which Tottenham are set to spend on him, which is £8.5million in wages alone.
It comes after the club announced via their official website (28 May) that Werner has re-joined the North London side on loan ahead of the 2024/25 season.
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes he will cost the club “a lot of money”.
“I’m struggling a little bit to understand the thinking behind this signing,” Wenham said.
“Werner isn’t going to accept a wage reduction and RB Leipzig won’t cover any of it.
“Tottenham will be paying his full wages, which are huge, £165,000-per-week.
“I think that is a lot of money to spend on Werner.”
Can Timo Werner justify his wages under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham?
While Spurs won’t be paying a transfer fee for Werner, they are still set to spend a lot of money.
Werner’s £165,000-a-week wages will cost the club more than £8million across his year-long loan.
That is a considerable amount to put toward a player who didn’t exactly set the Premier League on fire during his first loan spell with the club.
Spurs supporters will hope to see a lot more from the 28-year-old next season.
Otherwise, the money put toward his wages will look like a significant waste.
In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou must ensure one “stunning” Under-21 star does not suffer after a club announcement.
