Tottenham set for bidding war as Romero replacement emerges – Exclusive
Cristian Romero looks all but nailed on to be leaving Tottenham this summer.
Despite winning the UEFA Europa League and subsequently qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season, there is still a cloud of caution lingering over North London.
All of the focus, which should be on recruitment, is instead on exits, with Tottenham confirming on Friday (6 June) that Postecoglou has been sacked.
That might not be the only high-profile departure, as Romero is linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, and to seal a deal to sign his replacement, a bidding war may ensue.

Romero replacement won’t come cheap
If Romero does leave, Spurs need to replace him with top quality, and with any deal for Marc Guehi looking unlikely, attention has turned elsewhere.
Jarrad Branthwaite is the latest to be linked with a move to Tottenham, but Paul Robinson highly anticipates a bidding war for his services, which may end up pricing Spurs out of a move.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “He’s a really good player. I’ve enjoyed watching him this season. I’ve watched Everton a lot, and Branthwaite is on a different level.
Season | Appearances |

2023/24 | 35 |
“You see how comfortable he is with the ball. I don’t think Tottenham will be in the ballpark for what it’s going to cost because it’s going to be a big chunk to get him out of Everton.
“I think if he does become available, there’ll be a bidding war because teams will see the quality that’s there.
“Potentially with PSR, we know how tight to the line they are. If Branthwaite goes, that would level them out for this transfer window and give them an opportunity to spend and rebuild.
“If he does become available, it won’t just be Tottenham, and I don’t think Tottenham have the spending power to match what it would take to get him out.”

Tottenham need to show ambition this summer
Spurs have never been a team known for spending big, but that often comes at a cost when it comes to situations like this.
That is going to have to change if Spurs are to bridge the gap on the teams above them, though, after finishing 17th last season, it shouldn’t be too hard.
Tottenham need to recruit well this summer, and to do so, investment will be needed.
