Tottenham: Sergio Reguilon summer exit inevitable, Ange Postecoglou does not want him

Sergio Reguilon is finished at Tottenham and will depart for good in the summer transfer window, Paul Robinson has said.

The full-back was shipped out to Manchester United for the first half of the campaign and, when that was cut short, joined Brentford on loan for the remainder of the campaign in January.

Last season, Reguilon was with La Liga giants Atletico Madrid and even though Spurs don’t have a great deal of cover for Destiny Udogie at left-back, it looks as though his time in North London is coming to an end.

Former Spurs goalkeeper Robinson, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, is convinced there is no way back for him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“I think the fact that they allowed him to go to Manchester United at the start of the season tells you a lot about what the manager thinks and where they are with Reguilon’s future,” he said.

“He came back and then was loaned out again to Brentford, it doesn’t take a genius to realise the manager doesn’t want him as a part of his squad.

“You look at the problems they’ve had at full-back if Udogie doesn’t play, Pedro Porro doesn’t play – Ben Davies and Emerson Royal have filled in there.

“It doesn’t take a genius to realise that Reguilon’s future at Tottenham is on limited time, he’s one you’ve got to think is going to be moved on in the summer.”

Does Sergio Reguilon have a Tottenham future?

Robinson is absolutely spot on here, you don’t need to be Einstein to figure out that Reguilon is not going to win over Ange Postecoglou this summer.

He had a good chance to impress at the Red Devils at a time when Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were injured but he failed to do so.

His performances at Brentford have been patchy too and it is just very difficult to imagine a scenario where is once more a Tottenham regular.

A permanent summer exit is surely the best option for all parties, providing a new full-time home can be found for the 27-year-old.

In other Tottenham news, Emerson Royal is another who could leave in the next few months.
