Tottenham save ‘really big money’ after double transfer move – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Tottenham...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Tottenham have saved “really big money” after sanctioning the exits of Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier this season.

Ange Postecoglou has started his Spurs rebuild with numerous new signings after Harry Kane was also sold to Bayern Munich over the summer.

The finance expert admitted that credit must go to the Australian, who has got the fans on board despite some big decisions on players who were at the club for years.

“Really big money,” he exclusively told Tottenham News.

“Big significance as well in terms of how that squad composition is looking and that saves you some money financially.

Look at the way in which Spurs are operating at the minute, and have done down the years financially, but the playing side of things now and the feel-good factor that Postecoglou is bringing and the fact they’ve been able to let Harry Kane go and the fans are kind of alright with that even if they weren’t at the time.

Even players like Dier and Lloris who have been pivotal players in that squad for a number of years and it’s almost like the fans, for the most part, have accepted those departures because they can see the type of approach that the club are wanting to take on the pitch.

Credit Postecoglou in that regard, but also credit Levy, who we know is a shrewd operator.

As much as you don’t like to talk about players being moved on and shipped out, there is always a right time for that and those two examples in Dier and Lloris are really smart bits of business by Spurs.

We know they are savvy operators financially as well, that’s never been in question in perhaps moving players on, it’s always been bringing players in that has been the big question mark.”
