Tottenham ready to sell Alfie Devine for low upfront fee

Tottenham should not expect to make too much money from Alfie Devine’s sale this summer.

Daniel Levy has always been keen to profit from the sale of players at Tottenham. However, things have not gone to plan as of late.

Harry Kane’s mega-money transfer to Bayern Munich seems to be an anomaly in a long line of failed transfers. From Giovani Lo Celso to the limited fee expected for Richarlison, the Tottenham Chairman has struggled to generate massive income from player sales.

Devine is set to be no different, at least where this summer is concerned.

Devine to be sold for ‘low upfront fee’ amid Millwall interest

Devine made history when he became Tottenham’s youngest-ever goalscorer after coming off the bench to net against Marine in the FA Cup in January 2021.

However, Devine has yet to have the breakthrough season he has been craving.

He underwent two loan spells at Plymouth Argyle and Belgian side Westerlo for the 2024/25 season. But it seems four years after that historic FA Cup performance, Devine is set to leave Hotspur Way.

As reported by journalist Daniel Marsh (24 July), Spurs may consider letting Devine leave, with Millwall interested in signing the Englishman.

Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that Spurs’ demands will include a low upfront fee with a sell-on clause.

“I could see Devine going permanently, to be honest with you,” Wenham said.

“There are a lot of players pushing to get in, and not everybody is going to get in. Therefore, at some point, you have to go and find a permanent home if you’re not going to break through at Tottenham.

“If the opportunity is there, I’d imagine Tottenham would do a deal, and if it were to happen, that would be heavily incentivised on a future sale.

“So rather than the high upfront fee, it would probably be a lower upfront fee with a very decent future percentage sale on his next move because he is a player of high quality that just needs the right environment to really kick on and thrive.”

Levy will need to do better in future sales

Levy will need to do better in ensuring players leave Tottenham for a decent price.

Therefore, with several players tipped for an exit this summer, Levy has ample opportunity to get things right. His first task will likely be negotiating a fee for Son Heung-min, who confirmed he will be leaving the club.

However, with Richarlison and Yves Bissouma also expected to leave this summer, Levy has a huge task on his hands.
