Tottenham ‘ought to sign new right-back’ due to what Pedro Porro keeps doing

Tottenham Hotspur must upgrade on Pedro Porro as he is not good enough defensively, according to Ian Darke.

The TV commentator, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, has admitted while Porro excels going forward, he may not be up to scratch as a defender for where Ange Postecoglou’s side want to be.

The 25-year-old has been a regular at right-back since arriving from Sporting in 2023, and Darke has called on Spurs to consider a possible upgrade in the final days of the transfer window.

“Right-back might be another area where Tottenham ought to look,” he said.

“He may be good going forward, Pedro Porro, but is he good enough defensively? You’ve got managers who want full-backs to bomb forward.

“It’s in the same way goalkeepers can play with their feet but can they make saves?”

Pedro Porro will likely remain first-choice for Tottenham

In a calmer scenario, Spurs may afford themselves the luxury of upgrading on players who are already established first-choice starters.

But with the action which needs to be taken in midfield, up front and in central defence, the Lilywhites are unlikely to be able to place too much focus on full-backs between now and 3 February.

Porro has started 20 of his 23 league appearances so far this season, scoring twice and claiming five assists but with only four clean sheets.
