Tottenham ‘offer new incentives’ as midfielder agrees long-term contract

Tottenham have tied one midfielder at the club to a new long-term contract.

There could be plenty of changes in North London this season, with Daniel Levy likely to sack Ange Postecoglou.

As well as the manager, several big-money players are facing uncertain futures at Tottenham, such as Cristian Romero and Richarlison.

However, amid all this uncertainty, Spurs are beginning to announce new contracts at Hotspur Way, with one midfielder now putting pen to paper on a long-term deal.

A host of talented young players have signed professional contracts with Spurs in recent weeks, such as 18-year-old goalkeeper Sam Archer, which could lead to another goalkeeper leaving Tottenham.

George Feeney, Tye Hall, Malachi Hardy, Jamel Beggs, Ronny Moncur and Miracle Adewole have also signed their first professional contracts at Tottenham.

However, a perhaps even more exciting announcement has since been made, with James Maddison sharing his reaction as Tottenham confirmed on Wednesday (2 April) that Callum Olusesi has signed a new four-year deal in North London.

Tottenham held off interest from Paris Saint-Germain to secure the 18-year-old’s signature, and ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes incentives would have been offered to ensure the young midfielder put pen to paper.

“For a start, he will obviously be on an incentive-based contract,” King said.

“He is 18 now, he will be in his early twenties when the contract is finished. In the next 18 months, he needs to establish himself as a first-team regular.

“If he does progress quicker than expected, there will probably be a clause where he is offered a new contract. I’m not sure how much he will be earning, but some academy players can be paid as much as £16,000-a-week.

“Some people would argue that is too much money too early. However, if Olusesi becomes a regular part of the first team, then he obviously warrants that kind of money. This player now needs to work toward fulfilling Spurs’ faith. It will be interesting to see if he goes out on loan.

“I believe that if a young player is that good, he should be training with the first team every day.”

The decision to offer Olusesi a long-term deal suggests Spurs have high hopes for the youngster.

Therefore, he will be hoping to be handed an opportunity to impress in pre-season, and if he takes it, he could quickly find himself part of the first-team picture in North London.
