Tottenham must avoid Gibbs-White saga again as Antoine Semenyo agreement wanted – Exclusive

Tottenham are one of several clubs looking to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo in January.

Thomas Frank is under severe pressure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with poor results starting to overshadow a positive start in North London.

With Joe Lewis pumping more money into Spurs in recent weeks, it could lead to a very exciting January transfer window, with Semenyo a prime target.

Semenyo has a £65million release clause at the start of the window, but Tottenham will be wary not to make their move too early, especially after the drama surrounding Morgan Gibbs-White.

Tottenham to avoid another Gibbs-White saga with Antoine Semenyo

Tottenham were accused of making an illegal approach to sign Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest over the summer, leading any deal to collapse.

Dan Plumley has now warned that Spurs will be waiting until the transfer window opens to make their move for Semenyo, urging against any early discussions.

The football finance expert insists that a bid may have been prepared behind the scenes already, but Tottenham will play any approach really straight.

“You’ve got to play by the rules of engagement,” Plumley exclusively told Tottenham News.

“If you are going to make a bid, you probably will have that bid done in-house, for sure. Clubs will have that done early and be ready to go.

“But, you don’t want to get into a situation as we saw with Morgan Gibbs-White and Tottenham in the summer, with allegations of tapping up and things.

“So, clubs will play it with a straight bat. You will get the background of that deal done if you do want to move, but I think if you’re going to move, you will have to wait until that window arrives.

“You will expect two or three clubs to be looking at that, and Bournemouth are no mugs in this; they’ve done this before by selling half of their defence to big clubs for decent money in the summer, so they will know the score and won’t be able to stand his way.”

How has Antoine Semenyo performed in the Premier League this season?

Simply put, Semenyo has been on fire.

So much so that Arsenal are also interested in the Bournemouth star, who could be worth closer to £90million once the clause expires.

Before missing the 2-2 draw against West Ham on Saturday, the Ghana star had endured a quiet few weeks, failing from the penalty spot versus Aston Villa.

Despite that, Semenyo has still scored six goals and provided another three for the Cherries, with only Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago involved in more this season in the Premier League.

This is certainly one to watch as soon as 1 January arrives.
