Tottenham mooted to sign Milan Škriniar after Archie Gray development

Archie Gray was finally allowed to play in midfield for Tottenham against Everton on Sunday.

Despite his side losing 3-2 at Goodison Park on 19 January – with the Premier League called out for an error they made in the match – Gray would have been delighted to at least have had the chance to play in his natural position, having filled in at centre-back in recent weeks.

As reported by L’Équipe (7 January), Milan Škriniar is a player who Spurs are interested in signing to address their defensive crisis, although it was suggested that too much time had passed for this transfer to make sense.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Gray’s move into midfield could now once again open the door for Spurs to sign Škriniar.

“I get the impression that this is going to go right until the end of the window,” Wenham said.

“Clubs are likely to wait around to see what kind of deal they can get. Ben Davies is back, and he played in defence against Everton. Gray had been doing okay at centre-back.

“However, he started in midfield at Goodison Park. Therefore, it would make sense now for Spurs to sign Škriniar and play him alongside Radu Drăgușin.”

Tottenham to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Milan Škriniar?

Adding a player of Škriniar’s quality to Spurs’ ranks would make sense, especially considering the club’s defensive struggles as of late. However, if they’re going to sign the Slovak, they will need to act fast – and might even have to sign him permanently.

As reported by TBR Football (20 January), Galatasaray are currently leading the race for Škriniar, who might not be able to leave PSG on loan as the French giants have no more available loan spots.

Therefore, Spurs and Postecoglou must decide if the need for Škriniar is great enough to pay a permanent fee.
