Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur a ‘Real Madrid-level player’ – Spurs Expert

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes Tottenham ace Rodrigo Bentancur is capable of slotting into some of European football’s top teams, including Real Madrid.

Bentancur has spent the past two years in North London after joining Tottenham from Juventus (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 31 January).

However, after a positive start to life in the Premier League the Uruguay international has spent almost the entirety of the past year on the treatment table after suffering two serious injuries.

He is now fit and firing once again, having started Spurs’ last four matches in a row which included a goalscoring display at Old Trafford in a 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Sunday 14 January.

In light of his recent return to the fold, Wenham has piled the praise on the 26-year-old.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Every time I see him play, he looks like a Real Madrid-level player to me.

“That’s how good he is, and how highly I rate him. He could easily slot into a midfield at that level anywhere across Europe.

“He’s so good, and I think it will be incredibly important for us to keep him injury-free between now and the end of the season.

“If he can stay fit, I think the rest of the world will really start to take notice of just how good he is and how important he can become for Ange Postecoglou.

“His goal at Old Trafford was a thing of beauty. To have him back in our midfield after having not had him available for almost a year, it’s just a huge boost.”

In other Tottenham news, Wenham believes three Spurs players could still leave Hotspur Way before Thursday.
