Tottenham midfielder Matthew Craig to remain with Doncaster Rovers amid play-off development

John Wenham believes Tottenham midfielder Matthew Craig could remain with Doncaster Rovers depending on the outcome of the EFL League Two play-offs.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose would be keen to see the 21-year-old play his football in League One next season.

Craig has been a regular since joining Doncaster Rovers on loan in January, helping to guide them to the League Two play-offs.

After their 2-0 win away at Crewe Alexandra in the first leg of their play-off semi-final (6 May), the club have a fantastic chance of reaching Wembley ahead of the second leg on Friday (10 May).

Craig previously suggested that he would be happy to remain with Doncaster Rovers next season (Yorkshire Evening Post, 28 March) and Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – isn’t against this idea.

“I know he is enjoying his time at the club, but it would be great to see him jump up a division or two,” Wenham said.

“If Doncaster Rovers are promoted from League Two via the play-offs, I think they could look to keep hold of him.

“I wouldn’t be averse to him staying there and playing at least six months in League One before Tottenham then reassess the situation.”

Ange Postecoglou should keep a close eye on Tottenham midfielder Matthew Craig

Craig has been a consistent feature of Spurs’ Under-21s.

Having come through the academy in North London, this season has seen him handed his first proper experience of first-team football.

He has so far excelled, and while it is a considerable level below the Premier League, Craig’s time in League Two at least warrants an opportunity to impress in pre-season.
