Tottenham midfielder James Maddison injury update shared by Doctor amid potential ankle fracture

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Tottenham Hotspur...

Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder James Maddison is unlikely to return to first-team training until Christmas, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the England international may even require a fracture on his ankle and it may affect the other ligaments as well.

The 27-year-old picked up an injury in the first half of the 4-1 loss against Chelsea in November and has not featured since then.

Discussing the state of play with Maddison exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “Based on the timeline, this is likely an ankle injury that involves ligaments and potential fracture as well.

“I’m unsure of the exact type of injury because I haven’t been able to find a replay of it.

“However, based on what I’ve read, it sounds like the goal is for him to return to training near the New Year, perhaps around Christmas.

“He won’t be back in action until mid-January, however.

Maddison has been one of the signings of the season and it’s no coincidence that Spurs’ performances have taken a hit since his absence.

In 11 league games, the Englishman has found the back of the net on three occasions and provided five assists.

While Ange Postecoglou has predominantly used him as a central midfielder, he’s also played on the left flank in a few games.

The Australian will be hoping that he does not face any more setbacks and is on course to return to training before the end of training.

In other Tottenham Hotspur news, a senior first-team player is set to be out for the rest of 2023 with a Grade 3 hamstring rupture, according to an exclusive by an injury expert.
