Tottenham make it clear they want Jarrad Branthwaite as £80m Everton exit talk emerges

John Wenham claims Tottenham will be keeping an eye on Jarrad Branthwaite but believes a move for the Everton defender is unlikely.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels that the centre-back is more likely to join Manchester United.

It comes after a report in The Standard (8 May) revealed that Branthwaite, who is valued at £80million, is a target for both United and Spurs.

But Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – can’t see Spurs chairman Daniel Levy paying that kind of money.

“Tottenham are clearly making it known that they are interested,” Wenham said.

“However, I can’t see that deal happening.

“Central defence is probably where we have our strongest options, whereas United are lacking quality in that position.

“It would make more sense for Branthwaite to go to Old Trafford, and with the figures that are being brandished, I think United are more likely to sign him.”

Ange Postecoglou does not need Jarrad Branthwaite at Tottenham

There is no doubt that Branthwaite is a quality central defender.

He is young, Premier League-proven, and only likely to improve.

But with the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven already at the club, a move doesn’t make sense.

Spurs are better off spending that kind of money in forward areas.

As good as Branthwaite is, it is hard to see the club forking out £80million for another centre-back.

In other Tottenham news, the club have been urged to sign an “excellent” forward amid a transfer reveal.
