Tottenham: Lilywhite Rose worries over Guglielmo Vicario after recent injury news – ‘big trouble’

John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose believes Tottenham would find themselves in “big trouble” if Guglielmo Vicario were to get injured.

Vicario has become the undisputed number one at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since he arrived in North London.

Fraser Forster has acted as Vicario’s deputy, lining up once for Spurs this season as they were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in the second round after a penalty shootout defeat to Fulham (29 August).

Forster is currently injured, which has left Wenham worried about a potential weakness in the Spurs squad.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “I feel the only position now where we would be in big trouble was if Vicario was to pick up an injury because then you’d be looking at bringing in Brandon Austin who has never played a competitive game for Tottenham.

“Alfie Whiteman could also come in, but he has only played 30 minutes of football for the club in a UEFA Europa League tie.

“As a result of Forster’s injury, the keeper situation is worrying due to the lack of options we have in that position.”

Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou cannot live without Guglielmo Vicario at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Vicario’s incredible form this season has left few people considering the goalkeeping position as an area of weakness in Postecoglou’s squad.

However, with Forster out of action, Spurs are walking a very thin tightrope.

If something were to happen to Vicario, they would be left with the prospect of lining up with an inexperienced goalkeeper during the run-in as they look to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, which would be far from ideal.

Forster is already 35, and Spurs might benefit from sorting out a long-term backup option for Vicario during the summer.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou was right to praise one “outstanding” player at the club after what happened on Friday.
