Tottenham: Lilywhite Rose ‘thrilled’ after what happened to Italy ace Guglielmo Vicario
John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose claims he was “thrilled” after Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made his debut for Italy during the international break.
Vicario has been a standout performer since he arrived in North London.
His impressive form for Spurs has seen him called up to the Italy national team this season, with the 27-year-old making his debut for his country as Luciano Spalletti’s side beat Ecuador 2-0 on Sunday (24 March).
It was the first time Vicario had featured for Italy at any level, and Wenham believes this will provide the shot-stopper with a massive confidence boost going forward.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “I was thrilled for Vicario.
“He had never been selected by Italy before at any level, not even for an Under-16 training camp or anything like that, and this just proves that hard work pays off.
“He is the first goalkeeper to start a game for Italy since 2022 who isn’t Gianluigi Donnarumma, and he was able to keep a clean sheet too and by all accounts, he played very well.
“He’ll be looking to build on that momentum now with Tottenham and Italy.”
Tottenham ace Guglielmo Vicario should expect to make many more Italy appearances going forward
Every footballer dreams of representing their nation, with Vicario having now realised that dream.
Now that the goalkeeper has a taste for it, he will likely want to feature for Italy more frequently, which means he will need to maintain a high standard with Tottenham.
This added motivation can only be a good thing for Ange Postecoglou and Spurs supporters.

Vicario is still only 27, and there is no reason why he cannot eventually become Italy’s number one.
