Tottenham: Lilywhite Rose shares ‘huge loss’ verdict on ‘chaotic’ Serio Reguilon
John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose has labelled on-loan Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon “chaotic” and believes the club must do whatever they can to move him on this summer.
Spurs signed Reguilon from European heavyweights Real Madrid off the back of the left-back’s impressive 2019/20 season on loan with Sevilla, in a deal which was worth up to £32million (Sky Sports News, 19 September 2020).
Unfortunately, things haven’t worked out for the Spaniard who once again finds himself looking to make an impression while out on loan, this time with Brentford in the Premier League.
Reguilon’s recent performances will have done little to change Ange Postecoglou’s mind on his decision to let the 27-year-old leave, and Wenham believes it is time for Spurs to cut their losses.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I know he has featured for Brentford, but with a year left on his contract this summer it is hard to imagine Spurs getting any more than £8million for him, which is a huge loss.
“A lot of people have told me that Reguilon should have been kept as a backup left-back rather than Ben Davies, but people seem to forget that Postecoglou did have a close look at him in pre-season.
“He started Reguilon in three or four of those games and decided that he wasn’t for him. Reguilon is very chaotic, he is not good defensively and he needs to be moved on.”
Will Sergio Reguilon quit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer?
It is incredibly difficult to see any way back for Reguilon in North London.
Perhaps if he was shining for Brentford then maybe he would have had a chance to make one final impression upon his return to Hotspur Way, but his recent performance in the Bees’ 4-2 defeat to West Ham (26 February) demonstrates that is not the case.
Plenty of supporters in North London will wonder where it all went so wrong for the Spaniard, who at one point looked as if he would become a top left-back for Spurs.
Unfortunately for both him and the club, things didn’t work out that way, and it looks as if Daniel Levy has no choice but to stomach a significant loss for the defender this summer.

A new contract is incredibly unlikely, and if he isn’t moved on by September then Spurs are at great risk of losing a player they invested £30million-plus on for free.
In other Tottenham news, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes the club already have “the next Christian Eriksen” on their books.
