Tottenham: Lawyer speculates Ange Postecoglou transfer blow, ‘people won’t want to hear this’

John Wenham believes Tottenham could struggle to compete with Manchester City for Eberechi Eze’s signature amid speculation linking the Crystal Palace ace with a move away from Selhurst Park.

Eze has emerged as one of England’s brightest talents over the past couple of years, recently being rewarded for his fantastic form in the Premier League when he was handed his debut for the Three Lions.

Gareth Southgate brought Eze off the bench during England’s 4-0 win over Malta last summer (16 June), and the 25-year-old has since earned his second cap.

As per The Independent (29 February), Spurs are interested in making Eze their major signing this summer, with him and Pedro Neto the club’s two main targets, although they face stiff competition from Manchester City for the former, with the Citizens currently seen as Eze’s most likely destination.

In light of this news, Wenham has detailed that he agrees with that assessment.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, a litigation lawyer with over 10 years of experience in the legal field, said: “It’s not as easy when a team like City are involved.

“People won’t want to hear this, but I think Tottenham could take a backseat and see what City do first before they decide to make a move.

“Competing with City is difficult, and Spurs might be forced to look elsewhere at other targets, such as Neto.”

How likely is Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze to move to Tottenham this summer?

If Spurs were to beat Manchester City to a signing, it would be a real statement of intent from the club.

They’ve shown in recent months that they can compete with some of Europe’s biggest names, with Lucas Bergvall snubbing a move to Barcelona to play under Ange Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

If they were now able to repeat that trick with one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents, and arguably the league’s most exciting talent outside of the traditional ‘top six’, it would demonstrate that they mean business.

Tottenham could miss out on Eze

Eze is an exciting player with an eye for goal, and his style of play could align superbly with Postecoglou’s philosophy in North London.
