Tottenham: King hails ‘leading’ Pedro Porro as Ange Postecoglou provides fitness boost

Ex-Tottenham scout Bryan King has labelled Pedro Porro one of Spurs’ “leading” players after Ange Postecoglou confirmed the right-back is available to feature against Aston Villa.

Spurs will travel to Villa Park on Sunday (10 March) as they look to cut the gap to Unai Emery’s side.

Tottenham are five points behind the Villans with a game in hand and three points would put fourth spot, and with it automatic qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, back in their hands.

Ahead of the crunch clash, Postecoglou has confirmed that Porro is “available” again after the right-back missed Spurs’ last two league matches (Tottenham Hotspur Official X, 8 March).

In light of this news, King believes that the 24-year-old could be a game-changer for the North London side.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “Porro has been one of the leading players at the club this season.

“Tottenham have missed not only his defending ability in recent weeks but his attacking contributions. He usually makes those runs down the right which often end in crosses or shots at goal.

“He has a lot of energy and he seems to give the players around him a lot of energy. I think Emerson Royal is a half-decent replacement, but he just can’t do what Porro does going forward, he doesn’t have that capability.”

Pedro Porro could be the difference between Tottenham and Aston Villa at Villa Park

Tottenham have certainly missed Porro in his absence.

The Spaniard was forced to sit out games against Wolves and Crystal Palace and his absence impacted Spurs’ play going forward.

They were beaten 2-1 by Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (17 February) as they struggled to create any meaningful chances.

Against Palace, while they did come from behind to record a much-needed 3-1 win, they once again struggled for large majorities of the match to find the right quality in the final third.

Although he is a right-back, Porro has arguably been one of the club’s biggest attacking threats this season, laying on seven assists in the Premier League, the joint-most of any Tottenham player alongside James Maddison.

His return against Villa could prove crucial in what is a game that Postecoglou’s side cannot afford to lose.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou could axe one zero per cent midfielder for the clash with Villa.
