Tottenham injury news: Doctor shares long-term consequences claim on Emerson
Tottenham defender Emerson Royal faces long-term injury risks despite PRP therapy, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert has reacted to a report by Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte on 26 March which claims that he has been suffering from a patellar tendon issue for over a year.
It’s understood that he had not fully recovered from his injury but on trying an alternative treatment, the results were positive.
Discussing the state of play with Royal’s injury exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “The report states that he did not fully recover from an injury he sustained last year and had to try an alternative form of treatment.
“Based on the description, he’s very likely undergoing PRP or platelet-rich plasma therapy which is becoming increasingly common at the elite levels and in the general population as well.
“There could be a long-term concern if the issue continues to get worse.
“The club will be careful to follow best practices after PRP injections to allow for healing.“
Tottenham will hope Emerson has no long-term injury woes
The fact that it’s a commonly used method of treatment suggests that the risks involved may not be too high.
However, if he does suffer a setback, it could be an indicator that he has not yet recovered fully so the club will be playing it by ear.
The left-back has not been among the first names on the team sheet for Ange Postecoglou but has been an important option to have in reserve due to his ability to play at centre-back as well.

The 25-year-old has not featured for Spurs for over a month with his last appearance coming in the 3-1 win against Crystal Palace on 2 March.
