Tottenham injury news: Doctor issues update on Ryan Sessegnon ahead of Manchester City clash

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Tottenham Hotspur...

Tottenham defender Ryan Sessegnon is likely to require a late fitness test ahead of the Manchester City game on 26 January, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that he might already be back in full first-team training and in contention to play.

However, given that he’s been ruled out with a thigh injury and missed months before playing seven minutes against Burnley at the start of January, he is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes or even start.

Discussing the state of play with Sessegnon exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “If he’s on track for a return before the end of the month, I would expect to see him back to full training from the past few days.

Based on Ange’s comments, he is now touch and go for each game they play and I’m expecting him to undergo a late fitness test ahead of the next one.

He has been out for a few months and then had an injury setback, so the plan will definitely be to ease him back.

I don’t see him playing the full 90 minutes or even starting, for that matter when they play next.

Ange Postecoglou welcomed back one player in full first-team training this week with James Maddison returning from an ankle setback.

He was unavailable for the Lilywhites since November but is now in contention to take on Manchester City.

Regarding Sessegnon, Postecoglou said on 14 January that he felt a slight niggle and hopes he’s back soon.

The Englishman offers the Australian an option at left-back as well as on the left wing as he’s capable of playing in a more advance position as well.

In other Tottenham Hotspur news, a player is mooted to have suffered a setback in his rehabilitation and now may be out for longer than first expected.
