Injury Expert: Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma underwent stress fracture surgery, return timeline uncertain

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Tottenham Hotspur...

Yves Bissouma underwent surgery for a stress fracture in his ankle, and it remains hard to put a timeline on his return, claims Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert explains that there have been differing versions about his return from Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini.

The Mali international could even be out for the rest of the season and the reason why it is up in the air is because of how sensitive that area gets for professional footballers.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Tottenham Hotspur News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said, “Bissouma underwent surgery for a stress fracture in his ankle and continues to rehab.

“Former manager Cristian Stellini mentioned that the key holdup right now was recovering calf strength after that surgery.

“Timeline has been all over the place from the start as some said seven to eight weeks while Antonio Conte (manager at the time) said Bissouma might be out for the season.

“This type of injury and surgery is hard to put any timeline on due to the sensitivity of the area and rehab, especially for footballers.”

The 26-year-old moved from Brighton in the summer and it appeared to be a step taken in the right direction for him.

However, he’s just made eight starts in the Premier League this season as he’s struggled to nail down a spot in the playing eleven.

He’s failed to register a goal or an assist for the North London outfit this term and has picked up a yellow card in what’s been a disappointing campaign.
