Tottenham Hotspur attacker Bryan Gil faces the risk of a setback once he recovers from his groin injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert has claimed that it’s not easy to put a timescale on his return to action as it hinges on how he responds to the day-to-day rehabs.

Ange Postecoglou said in August that the 22-year-old Spaniard had undergone surgery to resolve an issue in his groin.

Thus far, Gil is yet to return to first-team training for Spurs with five games played in the new season in all competitions.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Tottenham Hotspur News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “It sounds like he will miss roughly two months of time but timelines are always nebulous because it really depends on how he’s responding day to day to rehab.

That day-to-day rehab and increasing intensity always come with a chance for setbacks – that’s inherent in any physio program.

The groin can be a tricky and sensitive area because of the high, constant demands placed on it in football.

Expecting him before the last week of October does seem like wishful thinking and Spurs will also not want to rush him back into action.

He underwent surgery in August, so two and a half months is the minimum requirement.

Gil has not featured for Spurs since the 4-0 victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on 4 January.

He played 77 minutes of that game and did not don a Tottenham kit for the following nine months.

In the following game against Arsenal, the Spaniard was an unused substitute after which he did not make the matchday squad for the next two matches and eventually moved to Sevilla on loan for the rest of the season.

This term, even without Gil, the Spurs attack has looked good and James Maddison’s arrival has helped Postecoglou deal with the absence of Harry Kane.

In other Tottenham news, a forgotten Spurs full-back may feel like a new signing under Postecoglou.
